Picture Galleries - Oradell, A River Town

The Delford Hotel. Oradell was a summer resort in the 1800s and early 1900s. The hotel was always full in the summer months. People opened their homes and rented rooms to vacationers. You could rent a canoe at the hotel. Several boat clubs and many camps were located on the river banks.[Picture of camp above, right.] Some families lived full time at their camp. You could paddle, fish, and row up river for miles until the reservoir dam blocked the way. Summer visitors stopped coming and the hotel lost business and was purchased by the town in 1925. The site is now part of Schirra Park.
